Multiplayer
You can tell which kinds are my fave by all the green text :)
Competitive
Competitive with Co-op
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days | on: 360, PS3, Windows |
---|---|
Interesting take on co-op where you can kill each other to take all the winnings yourself. | |
Omegalodon | on: Windows |
One team is a kaiju tasked with destroying things, the other team can control a bunch of different vehicles to try and stop them. Not the most interesting implementation of a neat idea though. | |
Rocket League | on: Switch, PS4, Windows, XBO |
Umbrella Corps | on: Windows |
Zippy third-person shooter with a real interesting mix of well thought-out mechanisms. | |
Videoball | on: PS4, Win |
Sport. Play locally. | |
Local
BANG BANG BANG! | on: Linux, Mac, Win |
---|---|
Quick bursts of mind-games. Each stage is a grid, you pay by moving between points and being quickest on the draw. I guess this was renamed to Dangerous Duels. |
|
BANG BANG BANG! | |
BOMB DOLLS | on: Mac, Win |
Co-op driving, scavenging, adventure, makeout, game. | |
BOMB DOLLS | |
Videoball | on: PS4, Win |
Brilliant team sport. | |
Hot-Seat
Capture the Flag | on: Win |
---|---|
Turn-based, squad-based, capture the flag game. Has hot-seat multiplayer too. | |
ダンジョンランド (Dungeon Land) | on GB |
Asynchronous
Async, AKA play-by-email, etc. multiplayer games are ones where each player takes their turn in their own time. When they're done a notification of some kind is sent to the opponent, who can then take theirs. I like the pace of them, and the ability to have multiple games going at a time.
Capture the Flag | on: Win |
---|---|
Turn-based, squad-based, capture the flag game. Has hot-seat multiplayer too. | |
Civilization V | on: Linux, Mac, Win |
Async multiplayer via Giant Multiplayer Robot, otherwise at least the host has to be online or you to take your turn. | |
civilization_vi | on: Android, iOS, Linux, Mac, PS4, Switch, Windows, XB1 |
An update added a 'cloud' multiplayer mode where people can finally play asynchronously. | |
Clairvoyance | on: Mac, Win |
Clairvoyance is a turn-based, asynchronous multiplayer game where you control a group of four robots trying to destroy your opponent's. The fun is in trying to predict what they'll do, and how things go wrong and right because of that :) Never had any luck running it on Arch, but *buntus seem fine. Works perfect in Wine. |
|
freeciv | on like everything |
Frozen Synapse | on: Linux, Mac, Win |
Wargroove | on: PS4, Switch, Win, XBO |
Multiplayer Games I Would Like To Play With Others That I Never Get To
Bionic Commando | on: 360, PS3, Windows |
---|---|
Amazing, aerial, grappling hook-based combat. | |
Rampart | |
(note to self Famicom and GB (not colour) versions are ace too) Kajani Kombat Castle Combat |
|
Umbrella Corps | on: Windows |
Zippy third-person shooter with a real interesting mix of well thought-out mechanisms. | |
Co-operative
Low Action
Also good to play with people who aren't much into games.
Ico | on: PS2, PS3 |
---|---|
Haven't actually tried it. Yorda being weaponless might be a bummer. | |
Minecraft | on: everything |
High Action
EDF series | on: 360+, PS2+, Switch, Vita, Windows |
---|---|
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days | on: 360, PS3, Windows |
Lost Planet 2 | on: 360, PS3, Windows |
Sanctum 2 | on: 360, PS3, Windows |
FPS/tower defence game that's pretty fun, even though I'm not big on either genre. | |
Frantic Problem Solving
Cookie & Cream | on: PS2 |
---|---|
Horror
Resident Evil Revelations 2 | on: 3DS, Wii, Windows |
---|---|
Obscure series | on: PS2, Wii, Windows, XBox |
