Make sure the L and R buttons are on (lit). These enable showing the recording level.
The 1 and 2 buttons, and their associated dials, are only for mics. you have attached to the bottom.
Default recording quality is 44kHz, 16bit, so change via the menu if you need.
You can save to different directories, handy for managing multiple projects.
