Notes on SNES Games

Cacoma Knight in Bizyland / カコマ☆ナイト
Basically it's a 16-bit-erised Qix clone. あのSHIMIZU (Ano Shimizu)'s illustrations are really nice though!
The Firemen
Front Mission
Kirby's Dream Course
Live A Live
Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie
マリオのスーパーピクロス / Mario’s Super Picross
Metal Marines
Metal Max Returns
新機動戦記ガンダムW Endless Duel (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Duel)
The system's best fighter, behind Street Fighter II Turbo. The characters feel suitably heavy, and the fighting system is rich: there's a really satisfying meshing of the (extensive) air and dash systems, downed attacks, range attacks, and juggles. The game has large, well-drawn sprites; Capcom should have paid attention to this game when they were making a hash of their Street Fighter Alpha 2 port.
もと子ちゃんのワンダーキッチン (Motoko-chan's Wonder Kitchen)
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
Picross NP series
A series of neat nonogames released via Nintendo's Nintendo Power service. They have a slightly colder feel than Mario's Super Picross, but compensate with two player modes (whos features vary between volumes), and some charmingly awkward reward images.
Shadowrun
Probably a bit overrated, especially compared to the Mega Drive game. But still has a great atmosphere and soundscape. It's pretty short, and not so interesting towards the end. Really feels like it could be a good base for something bigger.
SimCity
Really benefits from playing in an emalator with a fast-forward key ;) I think it's my favourite version of the game. The soundtrack's lovely.
Star Wing
Star Fox 2
Stunt Race FX also on: Switch, Wii
The low frame rate might make it a little tricky to get into now, but the soundtrack's terrific, and the stunt mode's lots of fun.
An interesting thing I read in an interview (FIXME) is that is was actually running at a much better frame rate, but Nintendo kept requesting extra stuff get added which slowed everything down.
Terranigma
A grand action adventure by Quintet. People complain of its length, and consistency, but I'm always sufficiently charmed by the way the character feels in motion and in combat.
The game's a pile of little stories spread over a massive time period. Lots of variety, lots of neat details.
Good soundtrack too.
海腹川背 (Umihara Kawase) also on: 3DS, DS, PS, PSP, Vita, Windows
Unirally
DMAs curious, very fast, programmer-graphic-ed, side-view racing game. Courses twist and loop, and you perform mid-air tricks (and there are lots of them) to gain speed. Multiplayer is great, providing both players are skilled at the game.
UN Squadron
This is my second favourite SNES shooter. Its structure feels unconventional, and its difficulty is just the right amount of hard.
Wario’s Woods also on: GC (in Animal Crossing) NES, Switch
